Slow Cooker Maple Glazed Walnuts

The holidays for me signify sugared nuts. I love to have a jar of them in the kitchen to snack on and I also love to make them as gifts for friends and neighbors.

Normally, I just make Sugar Coated Walnuts in my slow cooker, but today I decided to go little more fancy and make maple glazed walnuts instead.

For this recipe I brought out the real deal ingredients since there are only 4. I used walnuts (of course), real maple syrup, real vanilla extract and real butter.

Using the real-deal ingredients makes for just a far superior end product I think!

For holiday gift giving I like to package these maple glazed nuts up into little jars and decorate the tops with a circle of pretty holiday fabric. The jars make such sweet little gifts for friends, neighbors, teachers and co-workers I think.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Use Other Types Of Nuts Instead Of Walnuts?

If walnuts are not your favorite kind of nut you can easily substitute other types of nuts in this recipe. Try using pecans, almonds or any other unsalted raw nuts that you desire.

Can I Double Or Triple This Recipe?

This recipe is easily doubled or tripled by simply using a larger sized slow cooker and increasing the measurements of the ingredients. If you are doubling or tripling the recipe we suggest using a 6 quart or larger slow cooker so that there is plenty of room for the ingredients in the slow cooker without overfilling. You may also need to increase the cooking time by about an hour.

Can I Add Salt To The Nuts?

If you would like to add a salty touch to counter balance the sweet maple glaze feel free to toss the final glazed nuts with a little kosher and flakey sea salt once you have spooned the nuts out of the slow cooker and onto the baking sheet. Sprinkling on the salt while the nuts are still warm will ensure the salt sticks the maple glaze.

Candied Walnuts Recipe FAQs

These last for up to 1 week at room temperature, 2 weeks in the refrigerator, and 2 months in the freezer. Why are my candied walnuts soft? If they are soft you likely did not bake them long enough.

Are honey glazed walnuts good for you? ›

How long to soak walnuts to make them soft? ›

Experts agree that to reap the benefits, one should soak the walnuts for about 6-7 hours or overnight. And on an average, a healthy individual can have 3-4 soaked pieces of walnuts.

Why are my candied almonds not crunchy? ›

Don't under bake the candied almonds, and be sure to turn them every 20 minutes. And perhaps the most important tip: let the cool before digging in! As they cool, they'll firm up and get crunchier. So if you taste one fresh from the oven, don't be alarmed if it's still a bit soft.

Why do you have to eat walnuts before bed? ›

While you could eat walnuts any time of the day, bedtime is a great time to eat walnuts because they have numerous compounds that are tied to healthy sleep patterns. They're a good source of tryptophan, an amino acid that your body uses to produce serotonin and melatonin – both involved in regulating sleep.

What do walnuts do for your lungs? ›

Again, you likely didn't bake the almonds for long enough. The almonds will also be slightly soft when they're still warm, so if you've sampled them before they've cooled completely to room temperature wait a little longer before eating them.

Why are my candied pecans soft on the stove? ›

If your pecans are soft, it's most likely because they weren't baked long enough and are still retaining moisture. The sugar needs to bake long enough to caramelize and form a brittle coating on the nuts.
